PostSubject: Centurion Meeting February 21st 2018   Tue Mar 27, 2018 9:16 pm

Corinne Giroux had been the keeper of the files for this meeting that was taken place. They had a lot of ground to cover and even an agenda for it it too. Lately she had been doing a lot of duties that involved more clerical work within the legion as most of the others had taken up quests to go on. Corinne had to stay and make sure cohort five was in order and made sure to help them in any way that she could so in any spare moments she had decided to make good use of her time and do any necessary paperwork.

Until a few days ago, she hadn't really been preparing to come to this meeting without her original partner. It was a weird feeling to have to think that he would no longer be beside her in meeting, it was sometimes when they got to spend most of their time together.

She had gotten there rather early as it had been an evening meeting on a Saturday. She was sitting in her usual chair that would typically have Christian sitting beside her. The daughter of Chione had reached out to touch the chair and for a small moment she could almost feel his presence here. Ever since she had received the letter from Lennie she could feel a mixture of emotions. A lot of them were sad, but for the most part there wasn't much shock to her. It was only a matter of time for the people she cared about to start dying. It was that and she needed to take care of other people right now who needed her.

As for the meeting, they had to discuss the quest Lennie came back from and the Aspen's quest which was now going to have to be spoken about by Sophia as she was the other person who had gone on the quest. That also brought them to their second point of helping the third cohort out until a new centurion was appointed. Corinne felt like the weight of the world was on her shoulders at this point, and the only person that could make it feel less so was gone, but she would put on a face and she would continue going on for him. She had to.

"Which one is Cassia?" Lennie asked. She recognized Cora, the Prescott mother, Cora, for her medical work. She knew one of the sister's was Marina and the other was Cassia, and that Cassia was the Centurion.

"You don't know?" Christian replied with skepticism.

"No, you know I don't really spend time away from the fifth. I want to make a difference." She eagerly said, and although maybe naive, Christian always got enjoyment out of the display.

"You will soon enough. Just from being here, you'll know who all of the Prescotts are. And the Davenports, and the Virgos, and the Sinclairs." Christian tirelessly listed off the names of the families that first came to his head. It was a separate culture from the outside world for sure.

"That's a lot." Lennie mused.

"Just scratching the surface on that one. More 'well-ettiquite' families in New Rome than New York." Christian mused. "But I wouldn't worry about them, you won't have to deal with them for a long time."

"What if they retire? You know, before you do, and I take your place." Lennie wondered aloud.

Christian gave her a cross-eyed look. "There's just more to take their place." He replied, with utmost certainty. He gave a sigh to Lennie's expression, before budging, and pointing at one of the Prescott sisters. "That one."

-

Lennie didn't feel comfort in the seat she had taken, not at all. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and she'd taken every step to make sure there was no worn emotions or fear in her features or appearance. She'd dreamt of this chair for so long and all of the things she could do with it. Now that she was finally here, she was beginning to think about the old stupid moral you always heard as a kid. Be careful what you wish for.

She gently placed a hand on Corinne's shoulder, without giving the girl a glance. She knew that Corinne wanted someone else to be in this seat. Corinne's feelings were the only feelings that mattered to her out of the entire meeting. Despite feeling like she'd let the Centurion down, she also wanted to do anything she could to be supportive.

She kept her seat, and moved her hand shortly after. They had a lot to go over today. She glanced over to find only one seat of Cohort Three taken. It was disappointing that Aspen had gone through with retirement. So much in Lennie depended on Aspen to be there for what was coming next. But she also understand why it couldn't just work out like that.

Sophia took her usually spot next to her co-centurion Davis Sinclair. It’s not the first time she thought it, but right now she really wished Rowan was still her partner. She took her time, pulling the files out of her bag and placing them in front of her on the table. She knew today was going to suck.

Sophia hadn’t known Christian that well at all. One quest and a couple heart to hearts about her sister being dead hadn’t been enough to spark a friendship. But even if he had started out by being a jerk to her all the time, he hadn’t deserved to die. So it sucked, and the centurion was really glad her sister had already handed in her resignation, and wouldn’t be here for the debrief of the quest.

As everyone had come into the meeting and took their respective seats, she could feel Lennie's hand on her for sympathy. She looked over to her now co-centurion and flashed her a smile. Corinne started off with the roll call to see who was all present for the meeting. Usually it was mandatory but if someone was out for a quest or something usually that had to get marked down.

"Alright, so what we have on the agenda today is discussing possible replacements for the vacant spots we not have in our leadership and what we will do until we get someone in for those spots, then we will be talking about the prophecy quest that Sophia and Aspen went on, and due to extreme details and planning we will need to do, the moon chariot quest is last to talk about." Corinne said getting down to business and she shuffled through her stuff and grabbed the folder she needed so she could take notes to place in it.

"We now have a vacant spot for third cohort centurion, due to Aspen Virgo sending in her retirement forms. We also now have a vacant optio spot in the fifth cohort due to Lennie moving up to fifth centurion. Do we have any ideas on who we want to fill these roles and or any ideas on what we can do to help each other until the respective cohorts decide on someone for the spot?"

Jack had snuck in at the last minute right before the meeting started and snagged his normal chair that put him out of most people's eye-line. His usually confident smile and stance were replaced by that of a nervous and fidgety kid. He was still relatively new at this centurion thing and there were so many things that he had never gotten to talking to Aspen about, like most of them. He really wished they had gotten to the "How to Lead During a Centurion Vacancy and How to Be the More Experienced Centurion When You Feel Like a Newb and a Fake When That Vacancy is Filled" lesson.

This was not the Jack that the people in this room had seen before. Usually the son of Mars would come in bubbling with suave and confidence. His bright white smile would show in his laughter as he walked in with Aspen. He'd compliment Corinne's hair or Sophia's shirt and listen to everyone's gossip. His Bacchus legacy really came out in groups. Today though he couldn't even look any of them in the eye for long. He hadn't slept in a couple of days, evident from the bags under his eyes. This was not Jack Smyth.

In Jack's head, he knew that these other centurions were there to help. He should have taken comfort in the way that Corinne talked and wanted to find a way to help, but his heart just kept racing and his hands shook a bit as everyone turned to look at him. Jack nodded at everyone and his lips tightened. He drummed his fingers on the table in front of him. What was he supposed to say? Hey y'all, sorry I suck and can't figure this out on my own please don't hate me? Yeah, like that would go over well. "Uh, hey, uh, yeah." Good job, Smyth. Good job.

Corinne looked around at the room, it had seemed that Jack hadn't really been in the place to say what he needed or to say if he was going to promote anyone right away. She looked at him with sympathy though, she knew what it was like to lose your co-centurion or to have to run the cohort while your co-centurion was away. "We'll figure it out Jack. Maybe we could convince Aspen to change her mind? Either way, Jack, if you ever need help at all, just ask, myself or anyone else would be willing to reach out and help."

With that she had turned over to look at Lennie. "What did you want to do to address the lack of optio situation? Did we just want to leave it for now? or did you have anyone in mind?" Corinne had begun to take notes on everything that had happened so far in the meeting, on the paper below her her fancy cursive could be shown.

Lennie was relatively emotionless to the whole situation. She wasn't used to Corinne's gentle nature towards other Cohort's compared to Christian's weariness. Though she supposed it wasn't that surprising. Christian had 'fondness' for one of Cohort 3's Centurions, so for Corinne to have those same feelings wasn't so foreign. Part of Lennie was jealous. She'd kill to be in his shoes right now, losing a Centurion to retirement. She didn't let that influence her opinion though. Corinne had come to them far more nervous than Jack, and she'd turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to Cohort Five.

When Corinne turned the attention to replacing her, she pretty much felt like they were replacing Christian. Lennie didn't want to promote someone to Optio at all. It had been her, Corinne, Lauren, and Christian for so long, the thought of that changing now too was painful. "Denise Sinclair is my recommendation." She put forward. If it was best for Cohort Five and the legion overall, Lennie had a duty to do her best to make that happen. Even if she didn't want it personally.

"Unless you feel different Corinne, I'd like to invite Sophia Virgo the floor to explain what her recent quest entailed for her, her sister, and the legion as a whole." Lennie suggested.

Sophia took a moment, before she stood up. “So the basis of the quest had originally been for us to rescue the original three muses. After we helped them get home, they tasked us to do weird tasks as some sort of ritual in order for them to gain their power back. Unfortunately, when we completed those tasks, it became known that they werent actually the original three muses. And the rest can be found in the fully detailed report that is sitting in front of all of you. I made copies. Any questions?” She asked.

Honestly it was such a confusing type of quest that the two of them had been on, that it was hard to explain. But she and Aspen spent a couple hours the night before going over their report, making sure they got everything. It was just easier for everyone to read and ask, then have Sophia try and talk about it, and explain everything out loud. It just made more sense on paper.

Ooc the quest isnt done, this is all we know right now lol

Jack looked up at Corinne with a pleading look on his face. He would by no means call Corinne his friend, but he really feels like they could be good friends. Even Ethan had said the same thing after spending some time with her working on his photo project. He could tell that he had embarrassed himself from the looks on everyone's faces. At their last meeting, his biggest worry had been trying to get at least one of these people to like him, but now he was just trying to put out a roaring dumpster fire. Corinne had a point. Maybe they could get Aspen back. Maybe he could get Aspen back.

Jack tried to fix his focus back on the ever changing topics. He wished that he was recommending an optio. Felicity would be perfect for that, but she wasn't centurion material. Not yet anyway. Anyway, that Rian kid always gave him the shivers. Putting his best friend that high on the totem pole might be dangerous. You're not centurion material either. His self-hating side called back. He didn't come out often, but when he did he did not get put down easily. He was as stubborn as confident Jack.

The son of Mars turned his attention back towards the meeting, the topic of which had changed again. Jack picked up the packet in front of him. It was... hefty to say the least. Jack started to flip through it, the words putting his mind a little at ease. Things like quests had always worked so well for his brain. He was a son of Mars, after all, even if he did give over to his Bacchus side a bit. He dreamed of the day that he could go on a quest. As he read through the packet in his hands he listened to what Sophie said. It was definitely a lot. Maybe... Maybe Apsen's decision was going to be a bit more complicated than he had thought. Jack reached the end of the packet and looked up at the room.

Corinne looked over to Lennie and just nodded her head. She didn't really care if they had another optio or not, they could make it work without all four positions being taken. Everything had been getting increasingly harder since finding out Christian was dead. She felt like it wasn't safe to cry or let any feelings out not when others so close to him felt things so much more. She was his partner through her whole time coming back and he made this camp feel like home again after she came back. Was it wrong of her to wish he lived much longer than her? Was it wrong to be that selfish?

The demigod had a big mental sigh as the floor had been turned to Sophia. "From the reports that Aspen did, which I have also added into the packets, is that she thought something was strange about it, that all of this wasn't known for sure, but they were a threat to look out for." Corinne stated as she flipped over to the last package. She could see Aspen's handwriting, one she had gotten to know since the two of them had spent quite a bit of time doing paperwork together. She remembered being intimidated by Aspen, she had been a name everyone knew in the legion and not because of her being a Virgo, no one ever really attached Virgo to her name when they mentioned her. Aspen had been a brilliant fighter who never lost a one on one battle, she gave the children of war gods a run for their money. The fact that one life being lost could impact someone so much.

"I think for now, it will be an open case file. We haven't received any threats yet, but it is something that should be marked with an alert. At the moment there are more pressing matters, which Lennie can explain to you." Corinne said looking back over to Lennie to give her the floor for bringing up her quest.

Lennie felt annoyed that she had to talk about this. It was quite literally her job to do this, but it had only been in her duties for a very short time now. She didn't feel like she belonged at this table at all. But Lennie was the only one that had went on that quest that was still alive, and it was her job to retell the events.

"9 days ago the Moon Chariot went missing, and we were blessed that Trivia clouded the sky with the Mist, long enough that we were able to recover the Moon Chariot and return the real light to the night sky." Lennie gave an overview of the events.

"There were casualties. Not-" Not that any of you care. Lennie bit her tongue back, almost quite literally. "We lost a legionare and a centurion from our own Cohort." She left it on a sour note. Everyone at the meeting knew who had died, and if they hadn't, then Lennie didn't feel like being their fourth barrier of news.

"Samuel Sinclair disappeared from New Rome the same night the Moon Chariot had gone missing. We were quick to make the link, and I can now confirm that the oldest Sinclair son was involved with the theft of the Moon Chariot. He didn't act alone. He was teamed up with a tribe of amazonian-like women. They were the ones responsible for my predecessor's death. They have a cult-like vendetta against men, so I can't tell why they'd want to help one kidnap something essential to all life. But, he's still out there, and so are they." Lennie finished.

"We know where there camp is. I'd recommend that we garrison it ourselves, learn what we can, and move on. I'd also recommend that we declare Samuel Sinclair guilty of grand treason, in case he ever decides to sneak back in." Lennie laid the ideas on the table.

It wasn't easy for Jack to read Aspen's writings in the report, but he kept his straight face. Being both a military kid and a son of a war god had trained him very well to keep his emotions in check. Most of the time if his emotions got out of hand, it was never with sadness, but with anger. That or he was in giggly happiness when he gave into his, uh, drunker side. Jack took a series of slow breath and looked up when the floor was handed over to Lennie.

Jack didn't know Lennie anymore than anyone else in the room, but he could still detect the bitterness in her voice as she cut herself off mid-sentence. Everyone had done that before but he wasn't going to be the one to call her on it. Maybe he could talk to her when this was done. It seemed like she could use getting something off her chest, and he could use as many friends as he could get right about now. Jack gave Lennie a small smile.

After Lennie was done explaining the situation, she moved into her suggestions moving forward. Jack nodded as she suggested that Samuel be given the status of grand treason. "Seconded." Jack muttered, holding back the shakes in his voice that he felt trying to come through.
